Volunteering

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the 9th FINA World Swimming Championships 2008. We understand that volunteering requires a great deal of dedication and commitment. During five days of heat sessions and intense finals you will be part of the event team hosting 800 athletes from over 120 countries, national and international journalists and broadcasters, accredited personnel and thousands of spectators, not to mention 7500 fans at each session.

As a volunteer you will be a vital part of the team, an ambassador for the event, the city of Manchester and the UK.

We have interviewed and trained over 400 volunteers. Training sessions have covered;

• Event Information
• Importance of Volunteers
• Benefits of Volunteering
• Volunteer Charter
• Communication
• Health & Safety/ Emergency Procedures
• Time Management
• Customer Service

Information from the generic training sessions can be downloaded via the M2008 website. The Volunteer Handbook and Training PowerPoint presentation can be found here.

All of the above information will be included in the Volunteer Handbook which can also be downloaded via the M2008 website however, you will be given this handbook when you collect your event uniform.

All volunteers will be contacted by the relevant FA(s) regarding;

• Shift Roster;
• Collection of Accreditation Pass
• Collection of Volunteer Uniform and Volunteer Handbook

Please read this information carefully to ensure you are clear about these processes, as well as where and when you will be working. Our aim is to present a World Swimming Championships unlike any other and we look forward to working with you and delivering a show to remember. A show that leaves a lasting impression on all those participating would not be possible without you the volunteer. So on behalf of all of the stakeholders can we thank you once again for your contribution and support as it is very much appreciated. If you are still interested in volunteering but haven’t been allocated a role then email the Volunteer Management Team via volunteers@m2008.org
